This policy explains what we do with your personal information. It is written to be read, not skimmed past — if anything here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it.

Who is collecting your information

This site is operated by Online Appraisal. We are the agency collecting your personal information for the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020.

You can contact us about anything on this page using our contact form. It reaches us directly and we monitor it daily.

What we collect

When you request an appraisal we collect your name, phone number, email address, the property address, the type of property, your relationship to that property, and the timeframe you gave for selling.

When an agent applies to work with us we collect their name, agency, licence number, contact details and the suburbs they cover.

We also record the IP address a submission came from. That is used only to limit abuse of our forms and to investigate suspicious activity — never for advertising or profiling.

Why we collect it, and what happens if you do not give it

We collect it to arrange your free property appraisal. That means passing your details to a licensed real estate agent who works in your area so that they can contact you, and keeping a record so we can follow up if something goes wrong.

Giving us your details is voluntary. We cannot arrange an appraisal without your name, a way to contact you and the property address, but nothing else on the form is required to reach you.

Who we share it with

We share your details with the licensed real estate agent or agents we match you with. In suburbs where an agent holds exclusive rights that is a single agent. Elsewhere it is no more than three, and we tell you which arrangement applies before you submit.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with data brokers, marketing lists, insurers, lenders or any other third party unrelated to your appraisal.

Our site and database run on Cloudflare infrastructure, which may process data outside New Zealand. The Privacy Act permits this where the receiving party is subject to comparable safeguards.

We are alerted to new enquiries by a push notification that deliberately carries no personal information — the alert is only a signal, and the details are fetched separately over an authenticated connection. Your name and contact details never pass through Apple or Google push servers.

How long we keep it

Appraisal requests are kept for two years from the date of your enquiry, then deleted. IP addresses are purged after ninety days. Agent records are kept for as long as the agent works with us, and two years afterwards.

How we keep it safe

Your details are stored in an access-controlled database. The dashboard used to view them is protected by a password and a signed session, and is not indexed or publicly reachable.

If we ever suffer a privacy breach that is likely to cause you serious harm, we are required to notify both you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, and we will.

Your rights

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Send us a privacy request through our contact form and we will respond within 20 working days, as the Act requires.

You can also ask us to delete your information, and we will unless we are legally required to keep it. Asking an agent to stop contacting you is a separate request — tell them directly, or tell us and we will pass it on.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party advertising pixels.

A single cookie is used for our internal dashboard sign-in, which visitors never encounter. Address suggestions in the enquiry form are provided by Photon, an OpenStreetMap-based service, which receives only what you type into that field.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first through our contact form. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed, and material changes will be reflected there.
